Spectrum Health Services (SHS) has a rich history that dates back to 1967. It was initially founded as Better Family Planning, Inc., and opened its first clinic, Greater St. Matthews Medical Health Center. In 1984, the organization officially changed its name to Spectrum Health Services, Inc. and expanded its services to include primary care health services. They received the designation of a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in 1983.
Spectrum Health Services has continued to grow and make significant contributions to the community. They established school-based health programs in partnership with local schools and expanded their services to include dental care in 2014. In 2017, they were recognized as a Level-3 Patient-Centered Medical Home by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
